How closely does the elite League of Gentleman reflect the Public?

Fictional London characters are often based upon people that their creator has met in real life, even the ludicrous Basil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers was inspired by a real hotelier in a real hotel. But what about the bizarre characters of The Elite League of Gentleman, are they too based upon real people? According to the writers, some of them are at least.

Of course, if the characters are based upon real escort people then their bizarre characteristics are likely to be exaggerations and with this in mind, you might know a few people that could also be morphed into Royston Vasey inhabitants.

A Local Shop for Local People.

How many times have you walked into a shop or other establishment to be confronted by a rude and unwelcoming shop-keeper? This writer has. On one occasion I was even refused service in a village pub for no other reason than the barman didn’t recognise me. It’s not difficult to see how characters like these can be exaggerated a lot, or even a little, to come up with characters resembling Tubbs and Edward Tattsyrup. There’s probably people in your life that could fit in well at Royston Vasey with a little tweaking of their persona.

Country and City Weirdos.

It may seem to be a bit of a stereo-type, but head out into the UKs more remote areas and small villages and you could easily begin to find people that are really quite unusual. People that live in large populations tend to be influenced by more people, causing them to take on more mainstream characteristics whereas somebody with fewer influences around them might pick up more specific characteristics.

It is not only in the countryside that you will find weirdos though, and a city like London will have plenty making the city its home. You may not notice at first as there are so many other people around but look a little bit closer and you will likely notice quite a few escorts with behaviour that is more than a little unusual. Visit certain areas of the city to sample some of the escort nightlife and you might meet more Royston Vasey inhabitants than you were expecting.

Somebody Close?

Over time we become used to other individual’s mannerisms and eventually we might not even know that such mannerisms are even there at all. You could have a potential Royston Vasey character sat right next to you and not even notice it unless somebody points it out to you. Also, what other people find to be quite normal might be considered downright weird by others. It’s likely that the hotelier that was the inspiration for John Cleese’s Basil Fawlty sees nothing wrong at all in the way he treats staff and guests.

Those in Greenhouses Shouldn’t throw Stones.

As the saying suggests, it is perhaps best not to laugh at or mock others when you too could come under similar ridicule yourself. It has been said that every family has a weirdo and if you don’t know who that is, then it could be you. As amusing as The Elite League of Gentleman may be, just remember next time you laugh at the residents of Royston Vasey, you might be laughing at characteristics that you have yourself.
